On July 15, the University Houston-Downtown (UHD) Scholars Academy (SA) hosted a reunion for its former members at the Gator-owned Ogun Wine & Art Bar.
More than 30 SA alumni networked and enjoyed refreshments as they were informed of new updates in the College of Sciences and Technology (CST). Attendees also got a sneak peek of the upcoming Sciences and Technology Building, which is set to break ground Aug. 29.
The SA is an academically, competitive program in CST that promotes scholarship and student success for UHD undergraduate students majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The academy, spearheaded by SA Executive Director Dr. Mary Jo Parker, aims to increase the number of students graduating with degrees in the STEM fields, as well as the number of students pursuing graduate and professional degrees.
The Ogun Wine & Art Bar is owned by Laolu Davies-Yemitan, a UHD biotechnology alumnus and commercial real estate broker.
