By Toni Carter

Dr. Creshema R. Murray, University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) assistant professor of Corporate Communication in the Department of Arts & Communication, was recently accepted to Class XXXVI of Leadership Houston.

Leadership Houston is the premiere Houston leadership program designed to create, enlighten, empower, and engage leaders in the Houston community through a ten-month journey through Houston's economy, history, and growth plans.

Leadership Houston accepts applications throughout the year. Applicants are nominated by community leaders and previous Leadership Houston Fellows. Murray was nominated by Julie Norton, UHD associate director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. After a competitive two month application and interview process, she was selected for the upcoming class XXXVI.

This prestigious opportunity will provide Murray with exposure to key Houston industries while networking and enhancing the UHD brand, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of Arts and Communication.

"I'm honored to have been selected for this opportunity to further develop my leadership skills, learn more about the City of Houston, and represent the UHD," Murray said.

Class XXXVI of Leadership Houston will begin September 2017 with an opening retreat. The class will culminate June 2018 with the presentation of the team project.

Leadership Houston has a close-knit alumni network. Many alumni are energy, healthcare, education, and government leaders that work in Houston and have moved on to represent the city in numerous global arenas.

At UHD, Murray is a fellow for the Center for Critical Race Studies, a Senator for the Department of Arts & Humanities and an A+CE Faculty Champion.
