Polls Open for SGA Election, Sports and Fitness Referendum

Voting began 8 a.m., April 3 in the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) Student Government Association elections for next year’s president, vice president, attorney general, senate, student defender and chief justice. Students will also vote on the Sports and Fitness Referendum.

Students wishing to vote on senate members can only vote for those representing their college.

Two pairs of candidates are running for SGA president and vice president: Farya Gul, and running mate Armita Tajadod; and Mykal Peterson, and running Shenaedra Tatum.

Regarding the Sports and Fitness fee referendum, students will vote on the election ballot in the following manner:​

YES, I support the establishment of a Sports and Fitness facility fee that, may not exceed $150 per student for each regular semester, $75 per student for any term eight weeks or longer, and $50 per student for each term less than eight weeks, that will be used in the construction of a new Sports and Fitness facility and will take effect during the 2017-18 school year, or thereafter as decided by the Texas Legislature.

Or

NO, I do not support the establishment of a Sports and Fitness facility fee that, may not exceed $150 per student for each regular semester, $75 per student for any term eight weeks or longer, and $50 per student for each term less than eight weeks, that will be used in the construction of a new Sports and Fitness facility and will take effect during the 2017-18 school year, or thereafter as decided by the Texas Legislature.​

Students have until 5 p.m., April 7 to cast their votes online. All UHD students enrolled for the spring 2017 semester will receive a personalized link to the ballot in their GatorMail. Students can view step by step directions on how to vote​ ​here.
