The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) Office of Veterans Services will host two events relative to the changing roles and presence of veterans in today’s university.

At 11 a.m., March 7, Veterans Services will present, “There is No Bootcamp for College, or Navigating the Complicated Transition from Military to Higher Education” in A300 in UHD’s Academic Building. The event, which is open to students only, will feature Alexis Hart. She will speak with students about finding a place in the university and drawing on the particular strengths that veterans bring to the university.

On March 8, Veterans Services will present “Bridging the Military-Academic Divide; Creating Inclusive Campuses for Student – Veterans,” a topic geared toward faculty and staff. Faculty and administration are invited to discuss how to build on veterans’ experiences and presence in the classroom and in the pedagogy. The event will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. in the Robertson Auditorium.

Both events are sponsored by the Office of Veterans Services and the Department of English.

In other news, Veterans Services is now hosting writing services in its suite (318 One Main Building) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Tuesdays. The University community is encouraged to spread the word.
