In recent headlines:

KHOU: The University of Houston-Downtown was mentioned in an article featuring Mayor Sylvester Turner. While accepting the UHD Person of the Year award for Social Work, Wednesday, Jan. 25, Mayor told the crowd that the fate of those living under Houston’s overpasses and bridges keeps him up at night.

Houston Chronicle: The UHD Gator Mural by Sebastien “Mr. D” Boileau was mentioned in the article, Popular Midtown mural gets Super Bowl Update.

University World News: UHD Interim President Michael A. Olivas was quoted in the article, ‘Uncharted Waters’ for Higher education in Trump Era. The article talks about undocumented students and sanctuary campuses.

Houston Chronicle: Art Professor Floyd Newsum is mentioned in the article, In Familiar Territory, Painters Stretch. The article talks about Newsums’ painting, “Black and White with Gray and Color.” This piece can be seen online at the Longnecker Gallery.

Houston Chronicle: UHD’s exchange students from Taiwan’s Central Police University were featured in an article that chronicled their field trip to the Houston Police Academy, led by Hsiao-Ming Wang, a UHD professor of criminal justice.  The trip to the training academy was an introduction to weaponry not available in Taiwan, where officers are usually only equipped with handguns or batons.
