Shea / UHS StaffThe spring semester is upon us, and new and returning University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) students will take an exciting plunge into new classes, rewarding learning adventures, and fascinating projects and research. To commemorate students' return to campus, the Office of Student Activities—in partnership with several other UHD departments—will host a packed program of events and activities in Welcome Week (Jan. 17-19).

Welcome Week occurs at the beginning of each semester and is an exciting time for students to engage in traditions of Gator City. During Welcome Week, students will have opportunities to connect with new and old friends, UHD departments, administrators, student organizations and clubs. Events will include food, beverages, fun activities, and lots of Gator swag.

This week, students will enjoy a few old-standing traditions, as well as some exciting new activities that students cannot afford to miss. Sports and Fitness will host "Fitness Frenzy" at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17 and Wednesday, Jan. 18. Faculty will mix and mingle with students during "Pizza with the Professors" at noon, Thursday, Jan. 19. Both events will be in the Mural Area of One Main Building's third floor.

In addition, students enrolled in evening classes are invited to hang out in the Student Lounge at "Late Night Hump Day," 4 p.m. on Jan. 18. Hosted by the Campus Activity Board (CAB), the event will offer food, games and a raffle prize of a lifetime. CAB will raffle free tickets to the Jan. 18 Houston Rockets versus Milwaukee Bucks Basketball game at the Toyota Center. Five tickets will be given to the students who wear the most Houston Rockets paraphernalia. The tickets will be raffled to students during the event prior to the game, which begins at 7 p.m.

Other events include "Student Involvement Day." Representatives from registered student organizations will be on hand to introduce students to their organization, inform of upcoming events, and share the exciting activities that are involved with being a member. And in the spirit of the city of Houston hosting the Super Bowl, this year's theme is "SUPER BOWL LI: Organization Edition." Attendees will have the opportunity to win some amazing giveaways including exclusive autographed Texans paraphernalia.

All students are encouraged to view a complete schedule of Welcome Week events, at the Student Activities website.
