2017 Vital Voices Speaker Series Event April 19

The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) Center for Public Service and Family Strengths/Institute of Community Research invites the University community to another Vital Voice Speaker Series event, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, in the Commerce Street Building, Room C100.

Natasha Slesnick is the featuredguest speaker and will present, "Homeless Youth: Serving an Invisible Population." She will discuss how research has informed service efforts in her community.

Since 1988, Slesnick has focused her research primarily on homeless youth and families, especially in the realm of service provision and intervention development and evaluation. She is most interested in identifying strategies to engage marginalized youth to services that help them improve their health and well-being and exit the streets.

Slesnick is a professor of Human Development and Family Science/Couple and Family Therapy Program in the Department of Human Sciences at The Ohio State University (OSU) and founder of OSU Star House-the first research-based, drop-in center for homeless youth and young adults in the nation.

"Vital Voices" is hosted by the College of Public Service and the Center for Public Service and Family Strengths. For more information, contact Steven Villano at 713-221-8906. To attend, register at Eventbrite.
