To foster the long-term partnership between the Central Police University (CPU) of Taiwan and the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD), CPU Dean Kuang-Ming Chang and five CPU delegates visited with UHD Interim President Michael A. Olivas, Wednesday, July 6.

Other invited guests included Connie Kuo, assistant professor at Macau University, Billy Huang, assistant professor at CPU, Samuel Lin, executive officer of the National Police Agency, Taiwan, Alice Sang, senior staff at the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Taiwan, and Sandy Yeh, retired associate professor of CPU. Hsiao-Ming Wang, UHD professor of criminal justice and Johanna Wolfe, UHD vice president of advancement and university relations were also in attendance.

During the meeting, Wang gave a brief overview of the partnership between the two institutions and highlighted accomplishments of the UHD Bayou Connection Program, a program that introduces students to the cultural and economic connections between Houston and its first sister city, Taipei, Taiwan, a collaboration between UHD and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office.

"We are very pleased with the collaboration and would like to have more students enroll," said Interim President Olivas. "Houston is an important city, there are a number of Taiwanese who live here. It is my hope they would find UHD a good place to study criminal justice and many other subjects."

The visit was encouraged by CPU President Chien-Sheng Tiao.
