UHD Again Named Military Friendly School

PrintFor the third consecutive year (sixth total), UHD has been named a 2017 Military Friendly School, a designation that acknowledges the top colleges, universities and trade schools in the nation devoted to embracing military service members and veteran students to ensure their success both in the classroom and after graduation.

Director of Veterans Services Richard Selvera said, "We are one of just a few Universities in South Texas that have been awarded this designation, and this is the 6th year that we have obtained that award."

He added, "The UHD administration has repeatedly shown its commitment to our veterans. They seek out and secure scholarships for veteran students, like the $ 40,000 Hamill Scholarships; and by committing to add a new full time position to the Veterans Services staff to assist veterans with academic success. This shows that UHD realizes the importance of veterans students."

The designation was given by Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. Victory Media compiles this annual list using extensive research, institutional surveys and reviews by current students. Designations are determined by a data-driven methodology that measures a number of criteria including military support on campus, academic credibility, percentage of military students and potential to earn academic credit for military service.

UHD ranked high in the flexibility category thanks to online course offerings and special policies for military students called to active duty. Veterans make up four percent of the UHD student body.
