Student-led Events Help Transform Lives

Tuesday, March 29, University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) marketing students hosted two events to bring attention to products and career opportunities in the fuel and petrochemical industries. More than 100 UHD students and nearly a dozen local trade workers attended the events, where they enjoyed free food and giveaways..

The first event, "Fuel & Petrochemical + Impacting Our Lives," featured various industry products including musical instruments, cosmetics, jewelry, and pet toys. Attendees learned about the product manufacturers and available positions in engineering, marketing and sales, human resources, supply chain management, and accounting. The event was held at the College of Business.

Immediately following, Lonnie Haynes, executive recruiter at Brookwoods Group, gave career preparation tips and spoke to the volume of professional positions anticipated over the next five to 10 years.

Student marketing projects like these are made possible through the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufactures Collegiate Energy Challenge. The program gives students a unique, real-world business opportunity to create a marketing campaign for a national organization.
