Giving Back: Faculty, Staff, Students Volunteer at House of Tiny Treasures

Several UHD students, faculty and staff united to make the Fall Festival at the House of Tiny Treasures (HTT) an event that brought smiles to the faces of dozens of homeless children and their siblings.

Children received coats, fun games, activities and crafts. Children also received Christmas bags. They were given duffel bags that contained a blanket, sleeping bag, two pairs of pajamas, stuffed animals, toys and a stocking.

Mitzi Bartlett, the director of HTT, calls these bags their "survival bags for Christmas."

Participants included: Paulette Purdy, director of Presidential Events and Compliance; Rex White, director of criminal justice; Erin Hodges, Ph.D., associate professor of mathematics and statistics; Iren Chen, Ph.D., professor of urban education; Barbara Belbot, Ph.D., department chair of criminal justice; Sam Bible, special events coordinator; Carol Boethel, certification and data manager; Liza Alonzo, executive director of President Affairs and Operations; and many UHD supporters.

Additionally, UHD student volunteers learned that community engagement and giving back is not only rewarding but can be a lot of fun.
