Dr. Bezette-Flores Speaks on International Education at Global Luncheon

HCC VIP Luncheon VIPs

On Wednesday, Nov. 18, University of Houston-Downtown First Lady, Dr. Noël Bezette-Flores, served as the keynote speaker at the Houston Community College (HCC) VIP Global Luncheon meeting, which took place during Houston's International Education Week.

In attendance were approximately 200 attendees from various Houston universities, colleges, and community colleges, as well as K-12 organizations, consul generals, representatives from the international community, immigrants, elected officials and many others.

Dr. Bezette-Flores spoke about Houston as a vibrant, global city. She highlighted UHD's diversity, the establishment of UHD's UNA Chapter, UHD's "collaborative approach through service learning to demonstrate the great rewards of uniting the whole to benefit the individual, as well as the community at large."

She also shared the harrowing story of UHD student Naiyolis Palomo — a Cuban National whose family immigrated from Cuba when she was 11 years old, and how her experience at UHD has transformed her life. (Naiyolis was also present at the luncheon.)

"Stories like Naiyolis's underscore the great impact students who originate from other countries can have on our own society, as well as our responsibility to nurture the world's best and brightest who come to our universities to be educated and achieve their dreams," said Dr. Bezette-Flores.

Her remarks were motivational, inspiring and well received by all.
