The University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) Center for Student Diversity, Equity and Inclusion invites faculty and staff members to become members of the campus Safe Zone Program.

The program provides a network of faculty and staff members that is supportive and informed regarding LGBTQ issues. Participating faculty and staff members are Safe Zone allies who have completed the University's Safe Zone training and are prepared to provide confidential support and information to students.

Safe Zone training sessions are available this week for prospective allies and for current participants wanting to refresh their previous training. Dates and times are as follows:

• Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2-4 p.m. (A434)
• Wednesday, Aug. 17, 12:30-2:30 p.m. (A430)

The purpose of UHD's Safe Zone Program is to:

• provide support to LGBTQ students and their allies
• confront ignorance, hatred and apathy related to LGBTQ issues
• provide a safe environment to those students, faculty, and staff who do not wish to remain "in the closet"

UHD Safe Zone training is open to any UHD community member, but registration is required and space is limited. To reserve a space, contact John Hudson, director of the Center for Student Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
