Alumnus Honored as Finalist in Houston Business Journal 40 Under 40 Awards

Eric Melchor, UHD alumnus ('01) and founder of the innovative kids' health program Fly Movement, was recognized among Houston Business Journal's prestigious "40 Under 40" honorable mentions for 2015. The annual award recognizes the best and brightest up-and-coming professionals from a variety of industries in the Houston area. In addition, Melchor was selected as a finalist for the Evolving Award at the 2015 Catalyst Awards hosted by the nonprofit organization Houston Tomorrow. The Catalyst Awards recognize and honor those whose ideas and actions change and improve the quality of Houstonians' lives.

"I am honored to be selected with such an impressive group of people," Melchor said. "All of Fly Movement's board members and volunteers have built an extraordinary one-of-a-kind kids' health implementation program, and this recognition really belongs to the entire Fly Movement organization."

Fly Movement provides students an opportunity to reach a fitness goal through fun, rewarding team competition. As a result, they learn how to develop goal-setting habits, increase their fitness activity and establish a positive attitude toward fitness.

Judges from Houston Business Journal and Houston Tomorrow scored the nominees based on leadership, overcoming challenges and community involvement.
