UHD Students, Union Pacific Railroad Bring Literacy Night to House of Tiny Treasures

Last week, students from UHD's Urban Education Literacy Society visited the House of Tiny Treasures (HTT), an early childhood education program of SEARCH Homeless Services, as part of an ongoing effort sponsored by Union Pacific Railroad.

Tyson Moeller, Union Pacific Director of Gulf Coast Ports, joined as HTT students and families read "Steam Train, Dream Train" by Sherri Duskey Rinker and enjoyed literacy co-curricular activities with a railroad theme. All HTT families received a healthy meal, a book, a train conductor's hat and a plush train - all made possible through the support of Union Pacific Railroad and the Union Pacific Foundation.

The UHD and HTT students were joined by Leigh Van Horn, interim dean of the College of Public Service; Paulette Purdy from the Office of the President; and others from the University's faculty and staff.
