UHD to Host Emergency Management Drill with Houston-Area Agencies

emergency drillUHD will host a full-scale emergency management drill in partnership with local law enforcement and government agencies on Friday, Aug. 14 from 8 - 11 a.m.

Please note that this is a training exercise and there will be no cause for alarm.

The drill will occur north of campus in the Daly Street student parking lot and the Shea Street Building and involve the Houston Police Department, Houston Fire Department, Harris County Sheriff's Office, Department of Homeland Security in Houston, Transportation Security Administration, METRO and UHD Police Department.

The Daly Street lot will be inaccessible during the drill. Student parking will be available in Lot A and Lot B.

"UHD joined with METRO in a collaborative effort to plan, develop and coordinate this emergency management drill and incorporate multiple law enforcement agencies," said Carol Manousos, UHD director of emergency management. "Working with response partners prepares the University for emergency situations and enhances the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors. This real-time drill will simulate an actual emergency and provide a learning experience between participating agencies."

The drill will provide an opportunity for various departments throughout the University - including the UHD Police Department, University Relations and Facilities Management - to practice emergency procedures and evaluate communication processes in the event of an actual crisis. The drill also will serve to further the University's working partnerships with the City of Houston, Harris County and affiliated emergency response organizations.

Local media representatives may come to campus for the event, and if so, likely will set up on the North Deck of campus. Please do not be alarmed if you see reporters, police officers or emergency vehicles on or near campus, or hear shouts or sirens north of campus.
