Students Across All Disciplines Represent at Annual Student Research Conference

UHD Scholars Academy recently hosted its 14th Annual Student Research Conference (SRC). Nearly 100 students displayed their poster projects, and eight oral presentations were made by students across all colleges.

UHD Alumnus Dr. Phillip Gallegos, staff anesthesiologist at USAP Pinnacle Anesthesia Consultants was the keynote speaker. Gallegos discussed the undergraduate research opportunities that led him to a career as a physician scientist.

Rachana Wood, Sr. U.S. Diversity & Inclusion Consultant at Shell Oil Company, was the invited community speaker.

Many faculty commented that this year's posters were some of the best they'd seen.

"We've had our all-time best showing from students in non-STEM departments," said Mary Jo Parker, director of Scholars Academy. "It's indicative that more professors across the disciplines are involving their students in research."

Scholars Academy would like to thank SRC co-chairs Weining Feng and Chynette Nealy, as well as Provost Ed Hugetz and all of the SRC committee members.
