The Brown Foundation Awards UHD $50,000 for New Welcome Center

UHD is one step closer to completing its planned 15,000-square-foot Welcome Center thanks to a new $50,000 grant from The Brown Foundation Inc. of Houston.

The Brown Foundation is a long-standing supporter of the University and its students, having sponsored numerous Red Rose Scholarships and the Learning Community supplemental instruction program in the past. The organization also provided funding for Scholars Academy scholarships and program support in the last two years.

The new Welcome Center, set for completion in August, will sit atop the University's new visitor parking garage, currently under construction.

The facility will serve as the primary entry to the University and central home for campus tours, as well as student and faculty/staff orientations. The Welcome Center also will play an important role in UHD's community outreach by providing a space for Houstonians to learn more about the University.

"We are most grateful to The Brown Foundation for its continuing contributions to UHD students' success," said Johanna Wolfe, vice president for advancement and university relations. "The University will apply this new funding toward construction of the Welcome Center to help students effectively navigate essential student services and better transition into campus life."
