Alumni Return to Discuss Turning University College Degrees into Careers

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, University College presented an Alumni Panel chaired by retired BSIS coordinator, Barbara Canetti, and including four alumni from the college's two degree programs:

Albert Alonzo, Case Manager to U.S. Bankruptcy Judge David R. Jones, US Courts (BS-IS)

Mark Ferguson, Director, Controls and Utilities, at UT Health Science Center Houston (BS-IS)

Kenneth Smith, Network Engineer at Lone Star College (BAAS-AA)

Amanda Hudson, Physical Therapy Doctoral Program student at Texas Women's University (BAAS-AA)

Current students, alumni, faculty and staff participated in the panel discussion, "Connecting my Degree to my Career." The panel discussed topics including the undergraduate experiences that shaped their career paths and the skills they apply in their current positions. The panel fielded questions from the audience — mostly current students — who asked for the panel's advice on choosing a major, on various professions such as law and management, and on marketing their skills in a job search process or in consideration for a promotion.
