Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society Invites 150 New Members

Last week, 150 freshmen were invited to join UHD's award-winning chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. These students represent the top ten percent of freshmen and must be full-time, first-time-in-college students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher at the conclusion of their first long semester. Invitations have been emailed to prospective members, and an information session will be held for invitees on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

Alpha Lambda Delta is an active student organization celebrating academic achievement and promoting leadership and service. Last semester members helped raise more than $1000 for the United Nations Foundation program "Nothing But Nets," volunteered at many of the City of Houston's Citizenship Month events, and partnered with Golden Key Honor Society to launch the "Get Your Geek On!" trivia contest. In July 2014- less than six months after the UHD chapter was installed- the chapter received the prestigious "Order of the Torch" distinction from the national headquarters of Alpha Lambda Delta. This award recognized the chapter as one of the top five Alpha Lambda Delta chapters in the nation.

Alpha Lambda Delta is one of the three interdisciplinary honor societies affiliated with the University Honors Program. The chapter advisors are Mari L. Nicholson-Preuss, director of the University Honors Program, and Sandra Garcia, assistant vice president for Research and Sponsored Programs.
