Adjunct Professor Hosts Book Signing of New Release

avenue of palms coverAdjunct Professor Athena Lark is pleased to announce the recent release of her new book, "Avenue of Palms," which tells the story of former slave and seamstress, Violet Kingsley, arriving in the present day and dealing with the difficulties of modern life and race relations.

Lark will host a book signing from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 11 in front of the Cullen Auditorium in the Academic Building.

"Although many books have been written about the times and events of slavery, Athena Lark brings a new perspective by juxtaposing the 1830's with 2009. Moreover, the author introduces an interesting perspective by having a white slave owner married to a black girl. Yet they are not who the story is about. Telling the story of a young rebellious slave girl, Lark illustrates well the desire for freedom at almost any cost, and achieving freedom is not always obtained in an expected way. This book is a very good and interesting read with a bit of a twist." - Amazon

Lark received her Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of California, Riverside and her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of North Florida. She is a retired U.S. Navy veteran. Lark is currently working on her memoir, "Sailor Girl."
