The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force will present Kristopher Sharp with the Paul A. Anderson Youth Leadership Award at this week’s national LGBT Equality: Creating Change conference at the Hilton of the Americas hotel in downtown Houston.
Sharp, a senior social work student and current SGA vice president, was selected for the honor based on his commitment to community service and advocacy of LGBT issues at the University and in Houston.
The five-day conference, scheduled for Jan. 29 – Feb. 2, provides skill-building and networking opportunities with some of the nation’s preeminent LGBT activists. The annual conference attracts approximately 3,500 members of the business community, nonprofit executives and students for 350 workshops and training sessions.
“I know that had it not been for the leadership opportunities and the skills I have learned while a student at UHD, this would not have been possible,” said Sharp. “I think it speaks volumes to UHD’s commitment to high-impact practices that really have an impact on a student’s educational experience, while simultaneously enabling students to contribute and give back to the community.”
