Sheriff Adrian Garcia Honored as UHD Social Work Person of the Year

adrian garciaHarris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia was recently honored as the UHD Social Work Person of the Year at a ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the Commerce Street Building.

President Bill Flores welcomed guests and made note of the strides the UHD Social Work Program has made since its inception in 2008. He said, "UHD is committed to community service. Our social work students embody the mission to engage with and support Houston's vulnerable and need." He also congratulated this year's student-nominated person of the year and the other remarkable community leaders and honorees, saying, "Thank you for your important work and for modeling life-changing community service for our students."

Honorees included Laura Perez-Boston, head of Fe Justica Worker Center; Shahnaz Savani, international social worker in the Muslim community; and Josephine Tittsworth, transgender activist and social worker.
