Patrons Explore Businesses Along Main Street During Rails to Restaurants

Members of the Houston community and the UHD community gathered on Monday, Nov. 11, for the annual Rails to Restaurants event, which created opportunities to check out diverse restaurants and entertainment located along Main Street via the light rail. The group VENEZUELA in Colors performed "Intempo Dance in representation of Venezuela's Heart and Soul."

Attendees enjoyed appetizers, drinks and music on the South Deck of UHD before boarding the light rail and heading to Bombay Pizza, Natachee's Supper n' Punch for sliders, the Continental Club for tango lessons, and Julia's Bistro for a selection of house favorites. Guests then enjoyed a tour of the Ensemble Theatre, and desserts at Interfaith Ministries provided by Houston Community College.

While at UHD, President Bill Flores welcomed guests and said, "Citizenship Month is a celebration of diversity and tonight, we have the opportunity to enjoy some of Houston's diverse restaurants and live entertainment. Citizenship Month also unites all of Houston to build a stronger community. I applaud tonight's Rails to Restaurant sponsors, Houston Greeters and Houston METRO, for accomplishing this mission every day."

This event was part of the City of Houston's Citizenship Month, for which UHD is a proud primary sponsor. Noël Bezette-Flores, Ph.D., executive director of the Center for Public Service & Family Strengths at UHD, is co-chair for Citizenship Month.

In addition to UHD event sponsors also included Houston Community College and Interfaith Ministries.
