D. Michael Fields joined the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) in early March as dean of the College of Business.
Fields comes to UHD from Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he served as dean of the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship. In this role, he prepared the school for initial accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and introduced a school-wide process improvement program employing Lean Six Sigma.
While at NSU, he raised more than $10 million in his first three years of tenure and helped to establish a world-class sales institute, recognized as one of the finest sales education facilities in the nation. He also served on the board of trustees for both the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce.
Prior to joining NSU, Fields served as dean of the College of Business Administration at Central Michigan University. In this role, he oversaw 100 full-time faculty members and approximately 2,500 students, in addition to leading the university's Six Sigma initiative.
"I am delighted to join the University of Houston-Downtown and look forward to helping grow both the undergraduate degrees and new M.B.A. program," said Fields. "It is an exciting time to be at UHD and I'm eager to collaborate with the outstanding faculty in the college to help ensure student success."
Fields received a doctoral degree in marketing, a master's degree in business administration and a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas.
"After a thorough national search, I'm pleased to welcome noted academic leader, Dr. Michael Fields to our University," said UHD President William V. Flores. "His track record of success at leading business schools and his experience in development and process improvement initiatives will be an excellent asset for our faculty and students."
