State Historical Association Awards UHD Historians

By: Mary Ann Cozza

UHD historians made their mark on the Texas State Historical Association's award ceremony during its 117th annual meeting this weekend.

Professor Garna Christian received the Mary Jon and J.P. Bryan Leadership In Education Award and was presented the award by Torch Energy President J.P. Bryan. The award is given annually to recognize and honor an outstanding history teacher in Texas.

Additionally, UHD's chapter of the Walter Prescott Webb Texas Historical Society was recognized by the Association as the University Chapter of the Year. To be considered for this award, chapters must present reports to the Association detailing their community activities that year, projects, entries in the Caldwell Competition and attendance at association meetings.

Congratulations to both winners!
