Associate Professor Harry Franz Passed Away

UHD Community:

OMr. Harry Franz, Associate Professor of Engineering Technology, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013.

He joined the UHD faculty in 1986 as an associate professor in Control and Instrumentation Engineering Technology. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. At UHD, he served on many committees, including the Rank and Tenure Committee, Faculty Awards Committee and Faculty Development Committee. Among many other professional and University accomplishments, Franz established the UHD branch of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and served as its faculty advisor, established the Texas-Zeta Chapter of Tau-Alpha-Pi National Honor Society at UHD and coordinated Open House tours.

He was a member of IEEE, the National Society for Professional Engineers (NSPE), and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) among other organizations and consulted with Houston industry on various issues.

Franz was recently laid to rest in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Penn. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 5010 N. Main, Baytown, Texas.
