Taiwanese Students Learn English at UHD

Courtesy of Gail Kellersberg, director of the English Language Institute

From Jan. 14 - 31, the English Language Institute at UHD will host a group of 13 students from the Central Police University (CPU) of Taiwan for a 2-week English for Special Purposes course and accompanying field trips. The course will focus on the English language of police and fire-fighting work.

The field trips (other than NASA) will relate to student academic interests and include a tour of the Harris County jail and criminal court, and tour of a fire station. The students come to us through the auspices of the Bayou Connection, which has established a relationship with CPU under the guidance of Dr. Hsiao-Ming Wang. We have hosted similar groups over the past seven years with great success, so much so that additional universities in Taiwan are preparing to join the program. We look forward to working with the new students and learning more about Taiwanese culture.
