Tomikia LeGrande recently joined the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) as dean of Enrollment Management.

LeGrande comes to UHD from Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), where she was associate vice chancellor of enrollment management after serving as director of undergraduate admissions and director of graduate enrollment management.

During her seven-year tenure at WSSU, LeGrande played an instrumental role in the development of the university's strategic enrollment management plan, which focused on identifying the optimum student population for WSSU, while achieving the overall goals of increasing retention and graduation rates. She also successfully advanced the strategic plan through her commitment to procedural improvement and the creation of a seamless enrollment process.

Prior to joining WSSU, LeGrande served as an adjunct chemistry instructor and coordinator at North Carolina A&T State University's pre-college program, which focused on increasing the number of North Carolina's college-bound minority students in grades seven through 12 pursuing math and science majors.

"We welcome Tomikia LeGrande to UHD and are excited to apply her expertise in further streamlining and improving our enrollment management processes," said UHD President William Flores, Ph.D.

LeGrande is passionate about higher education, its role in transforming society, the next generation of leaders, the nation and the world. She has championed humanitarian efforts in the promotion of college access and success, girls' and women's issues, and other community focused initiatives. A first-generation college graduate herself, she has dedicated much of her career to ensuring college access opportunities to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and/or first-generation families.

"I am delighted to join UHD and the excellent staff in the university's Enrollment Management Department," said LeGrande. "I look forward to working with the team to advance the services we offer to students and build on the university's record-breaking enrollment experienced last fall."

LeGrande graduated from Savannah State University with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and from North Carolina A&T State University with a master of science degree in chemistry. She is a native of Savannah, Georgia.
