Community Engagement Breakfast honors State Representative Sylvester Turner

UHD recently held a Community Engagement Breakfast to honor State Representative Sylvester Turner for his support of the University. Several students were present who had received learning opportunities made possible through State Rep. Turner's Community Partnership program, designed to award funds to UHD and community agencies serving north Houston residents.

Those programs included a design and implementation of science projects for elementary schools, professional writing internship that provided assistance to create and publish materials for the Acres Home Community Development Corporation, "adopt-a-middle-school program" that provided an ongoing mentoring program in science education for middle school-aged minority students, and outreach to secondary schools that gave the UHD African American Male Mentoring Program an opportunity to communicate with junior males at Booker T. Washington High School.
