Social Work Program Selects Person of the Year

The UHD social work program is hosting its Second Annual Person of the Year Celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, in N1099 of the One Main Building.

The 2012 Person of the Year is Dr. David Buck, founder and president of Healthcare for the Homeless and professor at the Baylor College of Medicine.

The Healthcare for the Homeless website states its purpose is to provide long-term care for those who are unable to navigate a larger system of care; provide interim care for those who can transition into the public healthcare system; and provide medical street outreach to those who live on the streets and in single-night shelters.

In addition to these roles, Buck is also Chairman for the International Street Medicine Institute and was previously the director of the Harris County Health Care Alliance.
