UHD Hosts Electronics Recycling Drive

By: Mary Ann Cozza

UHD, under the direction of the Sustainability Council, will host an electronics recycling drive to benefit the WhatIF Campaign from Oct. 23-26 on campus.

The WhatIF Campaign is presented on behalf of UHY Advisors LLC, CompuCycle and Easter Seals Greater Houston and aims to use e-waste to provide sustainable employment to individuals living with disabilities.

The committee is asking students, faculty and staff to donate their approved unwanted electronics to one of the below locations. CompuCycle, Houston's first R2 Certified electronics recycling company, will process all donated product and responsibly recycled them in order to fund a long-term training and employment program for clients of Easter Seals Greater Houston. In turn, Easter Seals will provide initial training courses to its clients to teach necessary job skills including recycling, refurbishing computers and electronic products, and basic computer proficiency. Eventually, CompuCycle with Easter Seals Greater Houston hope to expand this program on a national level.
