Siemens Donates Software and Hardware to CIET Program

By: Mary Ann Cozza

Siemens, a global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering, recently donated over $50,000 worth of software and hardware to the UHD Control and Instrumentation Engineering Technology program.

Part of the donation included six SIMATIC S7-300 PLC (programmable logic controllers) trainers that were custom made and are widely used in a number of industry sectors including oil and gas, petrochemical, and utility industry.

According to Weining Feng, associate professor of engineering, these trainers offer a versatile platform for students to learn the essential knowledge and skills with PLC applications and gain a competitive edge as future automation engineers.

The equipment was delivered to UHD last week by Siemens employees including one former student, Scott Sorenson, who graduated from UHD in 1999.
