Student Competes in Hispanic College Quiz

UHD student Isaac Valdez is not only smart and driven, he's also competitive. The applied mathematics junior recently participated in the Hispanic College Quiz, a trivia game show that aims to encourage the appreciate of Hispanic/Latino heritage.

Valdez, who was nominated by faculty and staff at UHD, competed with eight other students from Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities-member institutions for a chance to win one of three scholarships ranging from $1,500 - $5,000.

The show was taped on July 28, 2012 and will air nationwide during Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.

Valdez is involved with the Student Government Association and the Environmental Club. He hopes to become a math professor and start his own business after graduation. He was coached by Vanessa Camarena, events manager for UHD Student Activities. For more information, contact Camarena at camarenav@uhd.edu.
