Center for Family Strengths Hosts 3rd Annual Symposium This Week

The Center for Family Strengths (CFS) at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) will host its 3rd Annual Family Symposium on campus Wednesday, Sept. 5 through Thursday, Sept. 6. The symposium, entitled, "Community Partnerships and Programs for Evidence-Based Child and Family Well-Being," will gather a diverse audience of leading psychologists and social workers from across the nation. Keynote speakers - including Roger Friedman, Ph.D. from the University of Maryland Graduate School of Social Work, and Christopher Greeley, M.D. from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical School - will address integral issues of child safety and well-being.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the seminar, which will be held in the 3rd floor Cullen Auditorium. The first day of the conference will focus on parenting and prevention strategies including child protection, health, education, mental health and community change. The second day of the conference will highlight Harris County and Texas Department of Family and Protective Services programs pertaining to child abuse, substance abuse, juvenile justice and the courts.
