Spencer Lightsy, Director of International Programs for the University of Houston-Downtown, is the 2012 recipient of the Advisor Encouragement Award from GlobaLinks Learning Abroad.

Lightsy was selected for the award for his efforts to develop education abroad at UHD, which has a large non-traditional student population, with innovation through internships and volunteering for students with families, jobs and other responsibilities. His efforts to develop a culture of international engagement on campus also were recognized.

The Advisor Encouragement Award is given annually to a study abroad advisor who has been in the position for a year or less and demonstrates motivation to work in the field of international education, commitment to improving programming at his or her home university, dedication to students, and an overall eagerness to learn. The award provides a paid fee (member or non-member but early bird rate) to a NAFSA conference.

Awards Announced At NAFSA Conference

GlobaLinks Learning Abroad announced the award recipients at the annual conference of NAFSA: Association of International Educators in Houston.
