Congratulations to the UHD department of Information Technology: Computing, Telecom and Video Net. The department was recently recognized as one of 12 finalists for the 2012 AMX Innovation Awards. UHD was selected out of hundreds of competing entries from around the world for using innovative applications for automation and control systems in a learning environment.
Recognition goes to Hossein Shahrokhi and the IT department, including Steve Cachia and members of his team, Jose Villatoro and Reginald Pickens; Miguel Ruiz, Interim Director for Computing, Telecommunication and Video Networking; Joe Longoria, the previous director who retired earlier this year after 20 years of service; Erin Mayer, Executive Director of Information Technology, and all members of the IT leadership team.
UHD was recognized for implementing a control and automation system to pro-actively address classroom technology issues before instructors or students realize that anything is wrong in the classroom. The automated system contacts the IT department with information on technology problems so they can be corrected before classroom sessions begin.
Other U.S. award winners include Stanford University, George Washington University, University of Florida, Wake Forest University and University of North Carolina. The award was established by the University Business Leadership Institute and is sponsored by AMX and the Global Education Alliance. As a finalist, UHD will receive additional equipment to enhance classroom technology continuity.
