Professor Receives Award for Contribution to Students

The Texas Section of the Mathematical Association of America recently awarded UHD professor of mathematics and computer science Ron Barnes with the 2012 Distinguished Contribution to Students Award.

According to the Section newsletter, Barnes was chosen for his tireless efforts to support students and student initiatives. Barnes instigated a pizza and puzzles party for students at the annual Section meeting, organized Saturday morning breakfasts for student chapter representatives, and served as the coordinator of student chapters from 1986 to 2011.

Barnes was the last recipient of this prestigious award because, in 2013 and going forward, the award will be called the Ron Barnes Distinguished Contributions to Students Award.
