Faculty Honored for Excellence in Teaching, Service and Scholarship

UHD honored outstanding faculty members at the 2011 Faculty Awards Ceremony on April 17 for their achievements in teaching, service and scholarship/creative activity. These award winners were selected by a committee of their peers and exemplify the dedication to excellence in education that makes UHD a premier university.

Susan Henney, associate professor of social sciences, and Mian Jiang, associate professor of natural sciences, were selected co-winners of the Excellence in Teaching Award.

The Excellence in Service Award was given to Leigh Van Horn, associate professor of urban education.

The Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Activity Award was given to Rahul Verma, associate professor of finance, accounting and computer information systems.

Mitsue Nakamura, lecturer of computer and mathematical sciences, received the Outstanding Lecturer Award and Ben Aderholt, adjunct of management, marketing and business administration, received the Outstanding Adjunct Award.

Finalists for the awards include Maria Benavides, associate professor of natural sciences, Anisul Islam, professor of finance, accounting and computer information systems, and Suzette Mouchaty, lecturer of natural sciences.
