Powerlifting Recruit is a Powerhouse in Class and Gym

UHD's newest powerlifting recruit, Dorthy Tran, is a force to be reckoned with in the gym.

From Dobie High school, Tran was the first girl from Pasadena ISD to qualify for the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting Association Class 5A state championships last month in Corpus Christi. She also routinely out-squats the boys on the Dobie team, maxing out at 415 pounds.

"They're kind of jealous," Tran joked. "They're glad I'm going to be gone next year."

According to UHD powerlifting coach John Hudson, Tran will be a great asset to the UHD team.

"We are very excited to have her here," he said. "She is an exceptional student and earned a merit scholarship to attend UHD, and she's also a great leader."
