LyondellBasell, one of the world's largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, recently donated a Provox Distributed Control System (DCS) valued at approximately $250,000 to the University of Houston-Downtown's College of Sciences and Technology.

"Science and engineering are learned and advanced by doing," said Akif Uzman, UHD interim Dean of the College of Sciences and Technology. "This important gift by LyondellBasell provides students with opportunities to gain hands on experience in problem solving and active learning in engineering that cannot be mastered by traditional classroom exercises."

LyondellBasell executives Gary Koehler, director of Manufacturing Engineering Support-Americas, and Michael Norris, associate director of Advanced Process Control Engineering-Americas, visited UHD to officially present the system to the University.

"LyondellBasell is dedicated to enriching education at all levels of learning," Norris said. "This donation will not only allow the University of Houston-Downtown to offer hands-on training to their engineering students, but also better prepare our future generation entering the workforce."
