Being a first-generation student can be difficult for many people. The uncertainty and pressure of being the first in one's family to attend college can be overwhelming, but the First-Generation Student Project at UHD strives to alleviate the anxieties of many first-generation students.

The organization is holding a special presentation at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, in 1099N, One Main Building, from Ashton Eric Paniagua, a UHD graduate who currently teaches history at UHD and other area schools.

Ashton was a first-generation student himself and he will talk to students about the challenges that come with the distinction. He will also provide some encouragement and tips for success, which he learned through his undergraduate and graduate studies. There will be cookies and other light snacks provided and a free raffle for six $50 gift cards to Barnes and Noble.
