Exchange Student Learns a Lot From UHD

By: Mary Ann Cozza

UHD’s influence has gone global! One exchange student from Bolivia, Valerie Cano, spent only three weeks at UHD, but says her memories and the lessons she learned will last a lifetime.

Cano, a student from Cochabamba, Bolivia’s Universidad del Valle, spent three weeks in an exchange program with Houston Community College practicing and improving her English language skills. When the three week program was completed, Cano spent an additional three weeks as an intern with UHD’s Offices of Institutional Research and Information Technology.

“I gained so much from my time at UHD,” Cano said. “I now have real work experience working in a real professional environment.”

In Bolivia, Cano is a senior Computer Information Systems student that loves photography and drama. Upon returning home, Cano will complete her studies and hopefully return to UHD in the future.

“This was my first time away from home this far,” Cano said. “I enjoyed every aspect of my experience at UHD and I hope to come back very soon.”
