Fall Healthy Seminars Begin Wednesday

Join Sports & Fitness for two upcoming "healthy seminars"and learn more about leading a healthy lifestyle.

The first seminar, "Don't Stress the Small Stuff," will be noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, in room N622, One Main Building, and will focus on dealing with stressful situations in a healthy manner. It will also look at the role a regular fitness regimen plays in managing stress and maintaining a healthy body.

The second seminar, "Understanding Flavor Profiles to Create a Healthier You," will be noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in room N622, One Main Building. Rhonda Scherer, Sports & Fitness assistant director, says the purpose of the workshop is to "re-introduce the five components of taste (sweet, sour, bitter, salty and umami) and to establish a basic understanding of how sweet and savory dishes are created."

Attendees will learn to identify those foods that produce certain flavors naturally as well as culinary techniques to maximize those flavors, thus creating healthier dishes.

Light snacks will be available at both seminars, which are free to UHD students, faculty and staff and cost $12 for non-UHD individuals. For more information, contact Scherer at 713-221-8481 or schererr@uhd.edu. A complete list of upcoming workshops can be found here.
