lucille pointerLucille Pointer, chair of the Management, Marketing and Business Administration Department, is one of two people in the nation this year being recognized for a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Collegiate Division of the American Marketing Association.

The American Marketing Association (AMA) is one of the largest professional associations in the world with over 9,900 student members, and 21,000 professional and academic members who work, teach and study in the field.

The Collegiate Division is 9,900+ members strong, with 345 collegiate chapters in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and select International markets. The AMA collegiate chapters services primarily Marketing majors, with specialties in market research, advertising, public relations or sales, business, graphic design, and advertising. However, the chapters are open to all majors.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is bestowed on esteemed collegiate chapter faculty advisors, and/or those who have contributed significantly to the AMA Collegiate Division, for at least 20 years. Pointer has been an AMA advisor for over 30 years. She began working with the AMA organization at Prairie View A&M in 1982. Since then, she has continuously sponsored AMA chapters. She served on the National Collegiate AMA Council from 2002-2009 and as president of this governing body from 2006-2007. She also coordinated the International Student Conference, which attracts over 1,200 student participants for two years. As a faculty advisor, she has worked with students on local projects, speaker programs and fund raisers. She has consistently taken students to conferences where they were able to compete against other AMA chapters, interact with their peers, network and find inspiration from the speakers and the programs.
