Human Trafficking Expert Visits Criminal Justice Class

Students in assistant professor Jennifer Chiotti's criminal justice class were lectured by a special guest speaker last week, Cat French of Exodus Cry, an international anti-trafficking organization.

French presented information on human trafficking in Houston, which according to Chiotti ranks high in human trafficking instances because of its large port. Following the class, French also took interested students on a "van tour" of businesses known to have ties to trafficking.

French is a former sociology professor that has dedicated her life to end human trafficking. According to her, there is more trafficking in Houston than Las Vegas. This graphic from the U.S. Department of Labor breaks down the "industries" into which people are trafficked.
